People are forgetful. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve known some people who were not forgetful. They had a great memory. One such person was Charles Coke. He could remember details from long ago. He would remember names and numbers. Still, when it comes to remembering God, human beings are generally very forgetful.
“And the people of Israel did not remember the LORD their God, who had delivered them from the hand of all their enemies on every side.”
One generation forgets what God did for the last generation. We see this in the United States. People from our last generation fought and even died for freedom and now a few generations later there are people who are willingly handing over their freedoms. Our nation has forgotten about God for the most part too. He helps us through a big crisis and by the next decade, we totally turn our back on the God who helped us.
What does it take to remember? I believe it takes personal experience. The person who is born again has a personal relationship with Jesus. This experience of walking daily with the Lord, Jesus, is something one can never have taken away. When it is more than a date to memorize, but an experience we had, we are much more likely to remember.
Let me encourage you to walk daily with the Lord. Pray before daylight. Study His Word. Ask God for His wisdom before you make a decision. Even if a whole generation forgets the Lord, you don’t have to forget Him.
