Brothers and sisters,
Beginnings are important. We need a good start in a race, in a game or in life. The start might not always be as important as the finish, however, it is still very important. Without a good start, it might be hard to come back. Without a good start, we might develop bad habits and dig a hole we simply cannot get out of. What about God’s start?
There was no start for God. We see in the first chapter of Genesis, God already existed before the beginning. In the first chapter of John, we see God was already there and Jesus was too. Jesus existed before the beginning because He was with God and was God at the same time. He created all things which have been created. Wow! That’s incredible! No wonder it is so important to seek Jesus and to follow Him all of our days.
Yes, we celebrate Jesus’ birthday in December. One of the hardest things to wrap our minds around is how this wasn’t exactly His beginning. Jesus did come as a baby on that first Christmas over 2,000 years ago. But, that baby was the Savior of the world who had existed since eternity past. His beginning on earth was nearly missed. He didn’t come with the fanfare He deserved. In fact, He didn’t return to heaven with the fanfare He deserved. Most turned their backs on Him. Still, some believed. And, those early believers were used by God to change the world, one soul at a time as God worked through them.
Jesus will someday return to rescue His Bride, the Church and take us home to be with Him forever. The end of the story is AWESOME in spite of the beginning almost being missed. Even though that part of the story is the end for many, it is the beginning for some too. New beginnings are almost always better than the original beginning.
Maybe today is a good day for a fresh beginning for you. Jesus offers us fresh beginnings. He created them. He created you. He knows the fresh beginning you need. Simply trust Him.
In Jesus’ care,
