As we end October and begin November, we are reading one of the minor prophets from the Old Testament. This is a book we often overlook. Its contribution is something for us to consider even today. Habakkuk was probably written about 620 years before Christ (BC). However, it tells of what will happen in 586 BC. Decades before the fall of Assyria to Babylon and before the fall of Jerusalem, this prophet heard a word from the Lord. He recorded what he heard. And, we are now the recipients of his message about 2,640 years later. What parts of his message might apply to us today?
No nation will escape God’s judgement. Every nation answers to God. Every leader of every nation answers to God. Sin bothered Habakkuk. Sin bothers God. Habakkuk prayed for repentance and if it would not come, he prayed for God’s judgement. God assured him his judgement would come.
Are you sick of the evil you see around you here in the United States? God is not overlooking it. He sees. Judgement will come. Yes, let’s pray for repentance. Yes, let’s help people see we need to turn back to God with everything we have. I hope we can see another revival in our time. If we do not, judgement is coming.
This 2,640 year old book is right on time and needed in our country today. God’s Word is always on time. I’m glad you are reading it with us. May God continue to speak to our hearts as we continue to seek Him through His Word, the Bible.
In Jesus’ care,
Pastor Jerry Jeter
