I often ask people what the Bible is. The quickest answer from believers is, “The Bible is God’s Word.” This is true. Billy Graham once said, “The Bible is more on time than the daily newspaper.” In days long ago, people would wait until morning to read the news which happened the day before. The morning newspaper contained yesterday’s news. The Bible’s news is relevant right now. It’s more on time than Facebook, twitter, or all of social media combined.
I’ve heard people answer that the Bible is “God’s ‘Basic Instruction Before Life Ends.'” It is truly an instruction book, but it isn’t just for getting things right before life ends. The instructions found on the pages of the Bible are good for every single day, for all of our lives, and for the lives of all people who will ever exist.
My favorite answer to this question about the Bible is, “The Bible is God’s love letter to His creation.” So true! He loves the world and everything in it. He supplies our needs out of His great love. God extends His love to us even when we are unlovable by human standards. I will never get over God’s love! Hopefully, as you’ve read the pages of God’s love letter to you, you are overwhelmed with how great His love is for you.
As we begin June, you have now read (if you are following along) Genesis through much of the “Wisdom Literature”. And, we begin June reading THE LOVE LETTER. Some of it will sound funny because we word things differently now. Some of it will seem strange because King Solomon lived a different life from us. Yet, one thing is true. Love is from God. Without God’s love for us, we would never have a chance to experience any type of love, not even romantic love. We owe all the love we experience to God.
In Jesus’ love,
