It is the way of the world to “look out for number one”. This is not the Way of Christ. At more than one time during His ministry on earth, Jesus taught us to put others first, not ourselves. One of those times is when He spoke the words in Luke 14:11 which is our Power Verse for March 1st, 2020.
Luke 14:11 says, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
When we put ourselves first, a time of humbling is on its way from the Lord. In the same way, when we put others first, God makes sure we are raised up into positions of leadership and honor. God’s ways are so different from the world’s ways. We really need to be careful to seek God and His righteousness first, above all else. One of the ways we seek Him first is by putting ourselves last and making sure the needs of others are met before our own.
In the mission Jesus called His Church to live out, we must do whatever it takes to reach those who need Him. It isn’t about our own ways and preferences. It’s about the great need of others to learn of Jesus and the eternal hope He brings. Our comfort and preferences should be laid aside until our mission is accomplished. Then, Jesus will say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Let’s humble ourselves now by putting others first and He will exalt us in His time.
In Jesus’ time,
