I cannot remember if it was a line in a movie or a title of a movie because I never saw the movie. The line is catchy though and not for all the right reasons. “What happened in Vegas stays in Vegas” is a good line, but not for the right reasons. We do not want to live like this suggests. Doing ungodly things and saying, “Nobody will know,” isn’t the way a Christian will live. We know God always knows. The verses we are reading on November 1st are a reminder that we are changed. It isn’t that nobody knows our past. It is just that our past has been cast as far as the East is from the West and we no longer want to revive it.
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). This is a sound warning to all who believe God just overlooks sin. He does not. He cleanses us from our sin. He sets us free from our sin. He defeats sin and conquers death, the result of sin. So, if we are in Christ, we die to ourselves and become changed as we live for Him. Those two verses are warnings to the unsaved or the backslidden.
It is the next verse which speaks to the person who is truly in Christ. “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11). Let’s let our past stay in our past. May we live to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with our lives now that we have been made new!
