Among the names of kings in the Bible, there is a name we often forget. He was king of Israel only for a year or two. Ahaziah was his name and his story isn’t much more than a chapter in the Bible which isn’t much for a king. Why is his story so short? Because in a moment of personal trouble, he sought out a foreign god. According to Elijah, the great man of God, Ahaziah just skipped right over the God of Israel, the true, living God and went straight for a pretend god, one whose name I won’t even mention here.
What happens when leaders forget the One, True, Living God? The people they lead rebel against God too. Every single time this happens, it takes a man of God to step up and remind both the leaders and the people they lead that God is still God and He is who we should be seeking. Elijah wasn’t the only man of God, but he certainly was used by God in powerful ways. There were many others who served and stood strong for God at the same time.
Could it be that our leaders have forgotten God? Have the people of our nation also rebelled against God? Where can we find a man of God to stand up and stand strong in reminding the leaders and the people that God is still who we answer to? Can we find a man or a woman to take this stand? Can we find many men and women who will stand together for the One, True, Living God? “Choose you this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD,” the One, True, Living God.
