Dying to bring life

We started this year by reading the Gospels. There are four, of course. There is Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. As we begin the month of March, we are completing the Gospel of Mark. Most of you know the word “gospel” means Good News. Yet, what we are reading today would not seem like good news to anybody I know.

In Mark 15 (our chapter for March 1st), we see a fixed trial, people mocking our innocent Savior, the injustice of an excruciating death of the King of Kings on a cross, and the burial of the Hero of Heaven and Earth. This probably doesn’t seem like “Good News”.

However, Jesus came from heaven to earth to set us captives free and He fought the war of Calvary on our behalf. He took all the injustice as the only flawless Son of the Living God could. He bore our burdens, our sin and our shame so we would not have to. This is Good News to us.

The only better news than what we read in Mark 15 is what we read tomorrow, in Mark 16. Jesus’ sacrifice doesn’t end with death! He died to bring us life! Nobody could keep the Author of Life in the grave.

In awe of Jesus,
Pastor Jerry Jeter
