Temporarily Weeping

What makes you sad? If we spoke about this subject for awhile, we could find lots of things to be sad about. For some, it is the loss of a loved one. For those who have not lost somebody close to them, maybe when their favorite football team loses it makes them sad. There is no comparison in regards to the depth of sadness in those two very different situations. Yet, we are all unique and because of our differences, what makes one sad might be different for another.

The state of our nation and world, having turned away from Godly values, makes me sad. I’m sure this is the case for many of you as well. Regardless of what makes us sad, if we have trusted in Jesus, our sadness will only last a little while. Look at what we are reading on December 1st.

“For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5).

We may be sad for minutes, hours or even years. Still, compared to eternity, our sadness is short. Every single day when the sun rises we are reminded fresh starts come from God and are given often. Someday, there will be a fresh start for all believers, one which will never end.

For the unbeliever, weeping will last for eternity. For the believer, joy will last forever.

In Jesus’ joy,
Pastor Jerry Jeter
