The new year

I am not sure what kind of calendar you use. I still have a few paper calendars. Sometimes, I forget to turn the page for a few days on my daily calendars. It’s easy to fall behind on those. For instance, as I write this, the daily calendar on my desk is on November 17th. I am a month behind. There. I just updated it.

The monthly calendars on my wall do get changed each month. I guess I keep up with those. However, time can slip away more quickly than I would like. I can hardly believe a new year is upon us. It will probably take me three months to get use to writing 2023 on my checks. Come to think of it, the fact I still write checks tells some people I am way behind. Wow!

How do you keep up with the times and stay focused on the timeless message of the Gospel at the same time? This is something every church faces. We must preach the same Gospel which was preached 2,000 years ago. And, we must do it in a way which shows how relevant it is for today. Our message stays the same as our methods change.

This year, one of the changes I want to make is to see our Church Council meetings become like a springboard for the best ways to accomplish the mission Jesus has given us. We will ponder the State of the Church on Sunday, January 8th. Our first deacons meeting is the same day and our first Church Council meeting is the following Sunday, January 15th. Pray with me for this meeting to help us focus on our mission and do it in relevant ways.

In Jesus’ service,
Pastor Jerry Jeter
