the dreamer

When I was young, I had many dreams. One of the first sports I enjoyed was football. I actually became pretty good at running the football. People had a hard time tackling me. I made lots of touchdowns in elementary school and in middle school too. However, when I arrived in a new high school in Blanchard, Oklahoma, they said I was too small to play football. Who knows? Maybe they saved my life. Still, it felt like they were crushing my dream.

Later, I dreamed of being a world champion boxer. I won some championships in Oklahoma and worked out with some rated fighters, including Sean O’Grady who was world champion in the Lightweight division at that time. After an injury to my nose (it was broken in 16 pieces), my wife decided she wanted me to quit boxing. I did and have not regretted leaving boxing, but it felt like another dream crushed.

When I look in the mirror each morning, I don’t see a great running back or a champion boxer. I do see a guy who loves Jesus and wants to point as many to Him as possible. I do see a guy who God took off the construction site and grew into a minister. Maybe I’m not the best minister in the world, but what I am has surpassed anything I could have ever dreamed of becoming on my own.

Today, we read about the Biblical dreamer named Joseph. His dreams were given to Him by God and they showed him how he would be used in the future. When God gives us a dream, it is usually bigger than we can comprehend. Even so, it doesn’t come without its challenges along the way. Read with us and see what Joseph went through to get to where God wanted him to go. God has a plan for us too.
